For the second-straight year, "Summer Skell"
, Wallkill's 7-on-7 skills camp and tournament, was a huge success. We had 8 teams from Section IX compete and improve on their passing game and defensive skills one month away from the official kick-off to the 2009 season.
Wallkill, NFA, FDR, Port Jervis, Saugerties, Goshen, Marlboro, and Red Hook had a great day of football on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. After all was said and done, NFA defeated Wallkill in the championship game 27-22 to win the trophy for the second year in a row. The Offensive MVP honors went to NFA quarterback Brandon Clark as he threw over 20 TDs on the day, and Defensive MVP honors were awarded to Wallkill's Joe Ortiz, who had 11 interceptions during the camp.
The event this year was especially sharp wth the addition of Forever Fierce
as a sponsor, who provided the T-Shirts for all the teams participating. Check out what Forever Fierce is all about on their website: www.foreverfirce.net
We would like to say a very special THANK YOU to all the volunteers who gave up their time and efforts on a summer Saturday to make our event run smoothly all day long:
And a thank you to all of the family members and supporters of Wallkill Football who were there cheering on their Panthers and helping in any way they could. We are gaining more and more excitement as the season fast approaches and Summer Skell is just one more way in which we can prepare ourselves to be as good as we possibly can be. The 2009 event was another step towards growing Summer Skell into the "unofficial kickoff" to Section IX football every year.
