Posted Monday, February 19, 2007 by Dave Der Cola
In a ceremony at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York last Friday night, Matt Baker was recognized for his tremendous academic record. The New York State High School Football Coaches Association officially named Matt it's 2006 Top Academic Football Player in Class A of New York State at an awards banqet during it's annual football coaching clinic.

Matt spoke of his gratitude to his family, especially his oder brother Ben, and to his former position coach Jeramie Collins for their dedication and guidance to him during his career. Along with being recognized by the association officers, he also received a plaque in recognition of the honor.

Matt Baker has provided tremendous leadership and has set a great example for all other Wallkill Panthers to follow. Despite participating in football, off-season BFS, basketball, and track, he has achieved the #1 ranking in his class of 2007. Matt is a true student-athlete in every sense of the word. We wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.
