Coach Vegliando's Grandfather Passes Away

Nicholas P. Vegliando of the hamlet of Wallkill, a retired Line Manager for IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., died Saturday, February 3, 2007 in Newburgh. He was 81. The son of Theodore and Christina Carriero Vegliando, he was born June 2, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y. After moving from Brooklyn, N.Y. at age two, Nick spent the rest of his life in Wallkill. He started his own garbage removal business as a teenager. He served in the U.S. Army fighting in Europe during World War II earning a Unit Citation during the Battle of the Bulge. Nick retired from IBM after 34 years with the company. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a life member and past Chief of the Wallkill Hook, Ladder and Hose Co., past President of Wallkill Rod and Gun Club, former member of the Wallkill Lions Club and St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, the American Legion Rose Sheeley Post 1034, Wallkill and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 964, Wallkill. Many of his activities included hunting, fishing, tinkering with motors and engines and woodworking. Nick was also an avid fan of the New York Giants and Mets. Dad will be sorely missed by his family and friends and we are relieved that his pain and suffering are at last over and that he has been reunited with mom in heaven. Nick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia Ann Clinton Vegliando. Survivors include his sister, Michelina Eberhardt of Walden; brother-in-law, Donald Clinton of Gardiner; son, Paul Vegliando and his wife, BettyAnn of Wallkill; daughter, Beverly Vegliando and companion, Wendi of Beacon, N.Y.; daughter, Christine Winters and husband, Robert of Avon, Conn.; grandsons, Brian Vegliando and wife, Jennifer of Newburgh and Derek Vegliando and wife, Crystal of Illinois; granddaughters, Kerry and Nicole Vegliando of Wallkill; great-grandsons: Tyler, Jacob and Jackson; cousins: Lena, Nicoletta and Antoniette Cicchetti of Brooklyn, N.Y., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 6, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict's Chapel, Wallkill Ave., Wallkill. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Gardiner. Memorial contributions may be made to: Wallkill Hook, Ladder and Hose Company, PO Box 460, Wallkill, NY 12589. Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors.
