Senior football player Conor Miller was one of the first responders to the tragic accident of Friday, February 2nd, that claimed the lives of two Wallkill High School students. Despite being a member of the Cronomer Valley Fire Department for only two years, Conor responded like a seasoned veteran according to Coach Jeramie Collins, who arrived at the accident shortly after him.
Coach Collins, who is a veteran firefighter and first responder, praised Conor for providing a very accurate assessment of the accident, and for using a fire extinguisher to put out a fire that had started in one of the cars involved in the accident. Coach Collins said that his assessment was as accurate as one that you would expect from a 20 year veteran, not from a person who is only been a firefighter for two years.
We always stress to our players that they need to step up when needed, and Conor stepped up in a big way under very difficult circumstances. I know that he would not want to be commended for what he did, but I believe that he should be recognized for his quick thinking and response. We are all very proud of him.
